This practice has been changing recently, but if you are a senior it is not a bad idea to ask your doctor what the evidence is for any treatment recommendation. Uninformed treatment is mistreatment and overtreatment is deadly.
Be sure to ask your doctor what the expected outcome of your treatment will be. Will the problem you came to the doctor for be fixed and will you return to the state you were before?
