What is Planned Giving?
Planned giving is a way to support Hemlock Society of San Diego by making a donation arranged in advance, often through a will, trust, life insurance policy, or retirement account. Planned giving offers you the opportunity to create a lasting legacy of choice, dignity, and control at the end of life. By including us in your estate plans through gifts in wills or trusts, beneficiary designations, or life insurance policies, you can amplify your impact. You’ll gain significant tax benefits, reduce estate taxes, and help secure our mission for future generations. Your legacy will empower us to continue our work, making a profound difference in the lives of others long after you’re gone.
Setting up a planned gift is simple. Contact the financial institution where your account is held or contact an estate planning attorney.
If you have questions or need assistance with your gift, please contact our Executive Director, Sarah Weinstein, at 619-436-4055.

Types of Planned Gifts
Donor-Advised Fund (DAF):
During your lifetime, you can recommend a grant from your donor-advised fund to support the Hemlock Society of San Diego. You can choose to make a one-time or recurring gift to maximize your impact. When you contribute to your DAF, you receive a tax deduction and can allocate the funds to one or more charities now or in the future.
Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) Residuals:
The final distribution of remaining DAF contributions is determined by the contract created when establishing your fund. Consider naming the Hemlock Society of San Diego as a beneficiary or allocating a portion of the account value while leaving the remainder to heirs to continue your legacy.
Gifts in a Will:
A gift by will or trust is a popular way to provide long-term support for the Hemlock Society of San Diego. You can control your assets during your lifetime and adjust beneficiaries at any time. Your bequest can support both loved ones and the Hemlock Society of San Diego through simple provisions in your will or trust.
